21 Bridges (2019)

Sometimes we get to know actors because of certain roles so sometimes it's hard to see them play anything else like Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor),and so many more from the Marvel Universe. That however did not stop me from checking out Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther in his brand new film released in 2019 entitled 21 Bridges. Boseman stars as New York Detective Andre Davis, a embattled police officer who has a reputation in the area for taking down cop killers after having to bury his father who was a cop killed on duty. A couple of guys decide to rob a restaurant hiding cocaine and in the process they take down some police officers so it's up to Andre to find them before 5AM, but something does not feel right to him about the whole situation. The film also stars Sienna Miller (Burnt) as Frankie Burns, J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man) as Captain McKenna, Stephan James (Selma) as Michael, Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) as Ray,  Louis Cancelmi (The Irishman) as Bush, Keith David (They Live) as Deputy Chief Spencer,  Alexander Siddig (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) as Adi, Victoria Cartagena (Gotham) as Yolanda,  Gary Carr (Death In Paradise) as Hawk, and the film was directed by Brian Kirk (Game Of Thrones).

I thought this was an excellent film as far as the story was concerned and how it all unraveled because I kept thinking how are they going to explain this. They definitely pulled it off in this story of corruption and cover ups while a troubled cop is put on the task which was strategically done. One of the things that I thought was a little weak was one girl knew exactly who the cops were looking for and she gave them up so easily and one thing they didn't do was explain how the cops knew where they were going to be at one point. I mean they show you how, but they don't explain how they found out the information other than a phone call. One thing I will say for sure is that while Chadwick Boseman definitely shined towards the end of the film, I thought Stephan James actually carried the film for the most part with his amazing performance. He also displayed his ability to draw you in because you were actually rooting for him to be able to get the info out that he had and you'll have to watch to find out what happens next. One complaint that I do have is that Sienna Miller was just a little too obvious because we figured her out real quick. The cinematography in the film was great and I loved the overall tone of the film which was dark and gritty for the most part as it represented New York perfectly. If you love films like this one which reminded me of films like Triple 9 and even Den Of Thieves then you may definitely enjoy this. That is why I am going to go ahead and give the film an B+ for a final grade and check out J.K. Simmons who does what he has done best for years because he never disappoints.
